To improve the livelihoods of cocoa farmers and their communities through the promotion of sustainable, entrepreneurial farming, improved productivity, and community development.
Sustainable cocoa
Barry Callebaut’s sustainable HORIZONS cocoa and chocolate benefits the farmers engaged in the activities we support. These activities lead to a stronger, more sustainable cocoa supply chain by improving the livelihood of cocoa farmers, their families and their communities.

We value the traceability of cocoa. This involves ensuring that cocoa is sourced from the farmers that are participating in our sustainability activities, so that everyone can feel good about buying a quality product that supports a responsible source.
Our organization
Who are we?
The Cocoa Horizons Foundation is a non-profit organization supervised by the Swiss Federal Foundation Supervisory Authority. You can get in touch with us at info@cocoahorizons.org.
Who runs the Foundation?
The Cocoa Horizons Foundation is led by a board of directors including two directors appointed by Barry Callebaut and one independent, external director. The board selects a General Manager who is in charge of the Foundation’s day-to-day business and partnerships with contributors, donors, and implementing partners.
Our partners
The Barry Callebaut Group is the world’s foremost manufacturer of high-quality chocolate and cocoa products, leading the way in innovation. Barry Callebaut is committed to sustainable cocoa production and actively participates in industry initiatives.
Funding
We are funded via three main sources:
- Through the purchase of Barry Callebaut’s sustainable HORIZONS chocolate and cocoa products.
- From contributions by donors and partners who are inspired to support the mission of the Foundation.
- From Barry Callebaut contributions.
How do we allocate funds?
The Board approves a budget and activity plan for each financial year. The decisions the Board makes are firmly steered by the Foundation’s mission to improve the livelihoods of cocoa farmers and their communities through sustainable, entrepreneurial farming, improved productivity, and community development.
Verifying our funding and activities
We are audited annually by a global audit firm. The activities and distribution of premiums of Barry Callebaut’s sustainable HORIZONS cocoa and chocolate products are also independently verified. Summary reports will be posted on our website annually.
